The 2007 Wayne County Community Foundation's Dictionary Project will again be held this Fall. The project presents dictionaries to area 3rd Graders. Last year, the Foundation presented more than 350 dictionaries to public and private school students in the County. With the help of area banks, bank customers will receive donation slips in their monthly bank statments in the near future. Please contribute to this very popular project.
New President Elected
At its September 2007 Board meeting, Vicky Lamberton was elected President of the Foundation. Joining the Foundation in 1993, Vicky has been a key partner in the growth and effectiveness of the organization. She is a graduate of Western Wayne HS, and received her Business and Accounting Degree from Cedar Crest College. She became a CPA in 1990 and worked for Parente Randolph, John T. Howe, Inc. and the Lackawanna Stadium Authority. Currently, she is Chief Clerk of Wayne County. She is associated with many community service organizations and in her spare time enjoys golf, cooking, and the outdoors. She has a daughter, Emma, who is a sophomore at Western Wayne. When asked about her election Vicky replied: "I am indeed humbled by the opportunity to serve as President of such a respected organization. I owe a huge debt of thanks to outgoing President, Warren Schloesser, for his decade and a half of faithful service."
On Sunday, August 26, 2007 The Wayne County Community Foundation honored members of the O'Neill Society with dinner held at the Calkins Creek Vineyard. Board Member and Master Chef Robert Zabady prepared a sumptuous meal complimented with wine from Calkins Creek. Mr. Mike Stone, head of the vineyard, generously donated his facility and provided tours of his operation. The Board is sincerely appreciative to Mr. Zabady, his wife, and assistants as well as Mike Stone and his staff for presenting such a magnificent event. Alert Hook and Ladder Receives Community Foundation Grant
The Wayne County Community Foundation recently awarded a $2000 Grant to the Alert Hook and Ladder No. 2 Fire Company in Honesdale. The grant will be used toward the Fire Co.'s new truck which is shown in the background. Presenting the check to Donald Matthews, Alert Trustee, is Paul Edwards form the Foundation.
Wayne Bank Supports Wayne Co. Community Foundation Educational Improvement Program:
The Wayne Bank of Honesdale is supporting the Wayne Co. Community Foundation Education Improvement Program with a check for $30,000. The Foundation is designated as an approved Ed. Organization and thereby eligible to receive funds from local institutions who thereby receive a state tax credit. In turn, the Foundation administers and distributes the money to local school districts in the form of academic grants. Damascus Christian Receives Innovative Teaching Grant
The Damascus Christian Academy, recently received a grant from The Wayne County Community Foundation, to purchase an autoharp for the music department. The instrument has 21 chords and allows the students to identify the cords and hear them as other students sing along.
Damascus Christian Academy, is a private school, operated as a ministry of the First Baptist Church of Damascus, Damascus, PA. It offers grades K-12 in a traditional setting with over 90% of its graduates going on to higher education. Rev. Stuart G. Hunt, is the Senior Pastor of the church, and Administrator of the Academy. The Wayne County Community Foundation, offers "Innovative Teaching Grants," to teachers in Wayne County Schools, for the purpose of improving student achievement, that would not be funded by regular school budgets. The Foundation receives its funding through donations from businesses, bequests, and interested individuals. Located at 214 Ninth Street, Honesdale, PA 18431, Mr. Paul Edwards, is the Executive Director.

Ridd's Honored with Community Foundation Ben Franklin Award
Shown are Russell and Evelyn Ridd recipients of the 2007 Wayne County Community Foundation Ben Franklin Community Service Award. The Award Plaque is displayed prominently in the lobby of the Wayne County Court House listing the names of all the winners of the award. Along with the recognition, the Ridd's received a $1000 grant from the Foundation to the charitable organization of their choice. They gave the grant to Wayne County Library. Wayne County Community Foundation Elects New Officers
At its quarterly fall meeting, held September 5, 2007, the Wayne Co. Community Foundation elected its new officers. They are as follows: Vicky Lamberton, President; Warren Schloesser, lst Vice President; Joseph Murray, 2nd Vice President; Frances Gruber, Treasurer; and Ann O'Hara, Secretary.
Joining the Foundation in l993, Ms. Lamberton has been a key partner in the growth and effectiveness of the organization. She is associated with many community service organization and is the Chief Clerk for Wayne County. She received her degree in Business from Cedar Crest College and is a graduate of Western Wayne High School.
Speaking about this new responsibility she said: "I am indeed humbled by the opportunity to serve as President of such a respected organization. I owe a huge debt of thanks to outgoing President (who served since the beginning of the Foundation in l993), Warren Schloesser.
