Honesdale, PA— The Michael J. Bryant Memorial Fund is now accepting applications for $17,500 in grants available to Wayne County residents with disabilities and to nonprofit organizations leading community-focused projects.

Established in 2008, the Fund has distributed nearly $110,000 to local individuals and organizations. It continues to grow through contributions from family, friends, and supporters. Proceeds from the 14th annual Herd the Curd 5K race, taking place on Saturday, September, also benefits the Fund, administered by the Wayne County Community Foundation.

Michael Bryant overcame many challenges throughout his life, giving him a special sensitivity to the needs of people with disabilities. He was a dedicated community volunteer, contributing his time and energy to the local fire company.

The Fund supports individuals with disabilities by helping them access the goods and services they need to maximize their potential. It also supports nonprofit organizations working to strengthen Wayne County communities. Organizations may nominate individuals by completing the grant application and outlining the specific need and associated costs.

Examples of specific needs may include, but are not limited to:

  • Summer camp tuition for those with physical or developmental needs

  • Therapy services such as therapeutic horseback riding or adaptive equipment

  • Classroom supplies for those with physical or developmental needs

  • Expenses associated with Special Olympic participation

  • 4-H participation costs for individuals with physical or developmental needs

  • Independent living expenses for individuals with physical or developmental needs

  • Community-based projects led by nonprofit organizations that positively impact Wayne County

Completed applications, including documentation of need, must be submitted to the Wayne County Community Foundation by Friday, May 22, 2026. Grant recipients will be notified by Friday, June 5, with a check presentation to follow.

To ensure financial accountability, the Fund reimburses organizations, rather than issuing payments directly to individuals. Previous applicants are welcome to re-apply. Applications are available through the Wayne County Community Foundation’s website at www.waynefoundation.org/grantmaking/application.

Questions may be directed to the Foundation at 570-251-9993 or info@waynefoundation.org.
